Breakthrough at Last for Cycle Parking in Wilmslow? Updated 15 January 2009
Six years of negotiation with Macclesfield Borough Council (MBC), Sainsbury's and local cyclists may yet pay dividends. Local cycle campaigners had tried to get cycle stands installed next to the store frontage (the location shown in the photo above) - however a redesign of the store entrance and trolley storage put paid to that. Sainsbury's and Macclesfield Borough Council (who own the car park) are negotiating about improvements to the car park and cycle parking as a jointly funded scheme. Initial draft plans included a covered bike shelter for up to 20 bikes located near to the store (where cars are parked in the photo below):
However nothing can be sure until we see the cycle shelter in place - negotiations are ongoing between the supermarket chain and the Council. Their next meeting is on 17th October. To support the scheme please contact Bob Broughton at MBC or the Store Manager at Sainsbury's.
UPDATE Jan 09 We understand that the details have been ironed out between MBC and Sainsbury's and work may start iminently.
